• My Story

  I became a teacher largely because I’ve never been able to imagine myself doing anything else. Even when my mother (a teacher herself) tried to discourage me, because “teaching isn’t for the faint of heart, I knew that this would be my ministry. I came to 51�Թ� as an undergrad and found that I wasn’t satisfied following the traditional education track—I wanted more. I slowly began to take extra English classes, and that led to a full-blown second major. After graduating, I began to teach middle and then high school English as I work on my MA in English. Not long after I graduated with that degree, I had the opportunity to return to 51�Թ� as faculty.

  Favorite Course to Teach:

  Teaching Introduction to Appalachian Literature has given me the opportunity to expand my knowledge of American literature and deepen my understanding of this unique, often misunderstood, culture.
